The Prayer isn’t about us telling God what we need and want, but rather it is us presenting those needs and wants before Him and waiting on His opinion on them. For so long we’ve been taught the wrong purpose about prayer and that’s why so many of us get disappointed when the things we’ve prayed for do not seem to manifest. We start wondering if God truly hears our prayers, we start questioning His existence, His promises, we start questioning His Words because it seems we’re praying in vain and no one is listening.
You’re wrong someone is listening and has already released an answer or solution to that very thing you’ve been praying about. That someone is the great Messiah, the Saviour Jesus Christ.
You see, prayer is all about submission to God, when you are submitting that means you completely surrender everything to God. When you’re submitting (praying) to God, you also wait on His opinion that matter. When you are in prayer your present your case before God, and wait on Him to give a response. Prayer is a dialog between you and your Creator, just like He says in His Word, Mathew 6-7 “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him” NIV. Your Father already knows all your needs, so when you present these needs e.g. job, healing, deliverance, marriage whatever it may be, go before Him already knowing that He knows it all, you’re only going to get his opinion about that very thing.
Please be aware, that what you want in most cases is not what the Father wills for you, Galatians 5:17 “For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Sprit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want” NIV. Do not condemn yourself for wanting good, luxurious things God wants that for his children Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” NIV , rather understand that maybe it hasn’t reached the fullness of time for you to receive them as yet, maybe there are something you need God to help you fix before He can release it or maybe you do not need it all, for it will only give glory to the flesh and not God.
2 Peter 3:8-9 “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”Maybe you’re seeking God for a house, job or kingdom spouse, and when you look back at all the prayers and journals you wrote to God, you gave Him a timeline that by 30 years old everything should have been answered. Maybe it’s time you asked God what he has planned for your life before you reach 30.
View prayer like this; You’ve been applying for jobs for years and finally, you have a job offer. You have a best friend who you discuss everything with and value their opinion, so you send a your friend a message, informing them about the job, they don’t respond immediately to your message-but it’s blue ticked. You send another message the next day, and instead congratulating they say; “Before you accept the offer, can we meet for lunch and discuss this offer”, now you’re curious, this is good news, what is there to discuss right..?
You meet your friend for lunch, and this is what they say “ I know you’ve been look for a job for a very long time but this job you’ve been offered, will it really benefit you? What are the working hours, how is the pay, is it in line with your purpose or will this job drain you, leaving you overworked, tired and unfulfilled? What is the history of this company etc.” Then your friend suggests taking some to find your purpose, that way when you apply or start a business it is in line with your purpose/calling and that is the will of God. God wants to have a relationship with us, He wants you to know all the beautiful plans he has for you, He also wants to give you a heads-up before making a bad decision. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Do not quench the Spirit” NIV, give Him a chance to respond, do not restrict Him from releasing what needs to be released in your life.
When next you pray, before you say “Amen” and get on with your day, take a few minutes and remain silent, expecting to hear from the Lord. You won’t hear a loud voice screaming voice from heaven *or you might J* but in my case, it’s normally that still calm voice, some people call it your conscience. God will normally lead me to His Word, or instruct to do something miniature, like clean my room, spend time with my daughter, check up on so and so etc. At first I was confused because it had nothing to do with what I’ve just prayed for but I stopped questioning and became obedient to the voice of God . John 10:27 “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me” NIV.
Remember when you pray, you are surrendering to the will of God for your life.
