THE GOD OF THE IMPOSSIBLE

Have you ever faced a situation where the road ahead seems impossible to tackle, where the journey seems impossible to complete or where the destination seems impossible to reach?

I’ve been here many times in my life. When I thought my 8-year relationship was coming to an end, when I thought I could never get out of the despair I felt I was in, the rut I created for myself and the constant back and forth sinning. When I thought I would never be able to let go of all that hindered me.

We’ve heard many times that God is the God of the impossible. Matthew 19:26 (NLT) Jesus says “Humanely speaking it is impossible, but with God, everything is possible.”

Even in the beginning God displays His character to us through Abraham and Sarah when He promises a son to the both very old husband and wife who laugh at the idea.

He asks in Genises 18:14 (NLT) “is anything too hard for the Lord?”

(Reference – Jeremiah 32:17,27)

We are also familiar with the story of Job who was wealthy and had everything. Satan went before God and said that Job only trusted God because He had everything. So, God allowed satan to take everything from Job. Yet even though He lost everything, all his possessions, family, wealth and endured sickness – He trusted in God.

In Job 42:1-2 (NLT) Job replied to the Lord: “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you” This was in response to God’s speech to him in chapter 38 where God answered Jobs questions with questions of His Sovereign Character.

38:4-6 “where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line? What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone?”

38:8, 11 “who kept the sea inside its boundaries it burst from the womb. I said: this far and no farther with you come. Here your proud waves must stop!”

The chapter goes on highlighting the very powerful and Sovereign Character of God, the God of creation – Elohim.

We were not there when God created the foundations of the earth and determined its dimensions, yet sometimes we doubt that He can take care of our problems and situations or help us on our journey.Often times we take matters into our own hands, carry the weight by ourselves because we doubt that the God who created the universe and everything in it can solve the task before us. Its natural and human nature – the Psalmist David writes in Psalm 8:4-6 (NLT) “What are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honour. You gave themcharge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority.”

We may resonate with the feelings of David – “what am I that He is mindful of me?”, but God is the God of the impossible, the one who tells the waves where to stop, how much more would He be able to take care of what we face. The same God created us only a little lower than Himself and crowned us with glory and honour, how important do you think that obstacle you’re facing is to Him and how much more attentive would He be to that battle you’re fighting.

Zechariah 8:6 “This is what the Lord of Heavens armies says: all this may seem impossible to you now, a small remnant of God’s people, but is it impossible for me? Says the Lord”

We are reminded by people and Prophets in the old testament and by Jesus Himself, that nothing is impossible for God.

Take heart in knowing that whatever you may face, whatever obstacle stands before you, it’s not too hard for God to move. And when you’re worried about what comes next or where the road will lead you, remember that the destination was already purchased for you, the cost of which was the blood of Jesus on the cross. Even our sin and our shame and things in our life that hinder us do not fall in the category of “impossible for God to take care of.”

“I can never escape your spirit; I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave you are there”-Psalm 139: 7-8

“I can never escape your spirit; I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave you are there”-Ps 139:7-8

We can never escape Him. He is everywhere and in all things.

Ps 139:16 “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed”

God who took the time to create heaven and earth, who took the time to create you and I and carefully planned out our lives; recorded each day of our life and saw us before we were born, who gives children to barren women and restores what’s lost.Such a God can handle whatever you’re facing right now, no problem is too big or too small for the one who holds YOU and the world in His hands.

  1. Such a powerful message. I always look forward to reading new blogs and devotions. I realize that it is possible to complete faith in one area of life and have none in another area. This is a reflection of the limitations we have about God even as believers. There are circumstances that I myself have almost deemed impossible to change but this message reminds me that nothing is impossible for the Lord. He can do anything and nothing can stop him.

  2. What a WORD!

Thank you for reminding me that I serve a God of the impossible 🙌🙌🙌

A gracious merciful God, slow to anger and abounding in Steadfast love 🙌🙌

  3. A very powerful and eye opening message. He is indeed a God of impossible and the God of miracles. Knowing that Jesus paid it all on the cross, I still sometimes doubt, so I need to keep reminding myself that no matter how hard the circumstances are, he still can restore everything. He watches over us all the time and has carefully planned our lives and set out the path for us.
